Pointed ears, closed mouth, given cadence
With the yellow blanket and the winner’s wreath, the impressive black horse gallops across the field of the Hamburg Derby and lets himself be celebrated! We are talking about Don Carismo FRH. With his rider Andrea Timpe, the pair won the legendary Hamburg Dressage Derby this year. The success story already started in 2004 in Verden.
At that time, the Don Crusador/Carismo son was five months old. His breeder Jürgen Hake from Wagenfeld sold him at the Elite Foal and Broodmare Auction. His auction name: Don Quichotte JH. As a growing young horse, the new owners put the then four-year-old into the care of his current rider, Andrea Timpe. Andrea Timpe was convinced by his willingness to perform and his rideability, so that she was soon able to call the gelding her own. That was all nine years ago, and since then the two have been an unbeatable pair. The dressage rider from Hattingen is no stranger to the equestrian scene. As a young rider, she competed for Germany and won gold with the team at the 2006 European Young Riders Championships in Stadl Paura, Austria. In the meantime, she has trained several horses up to the advanced level. With consistently top placings, Don Carismo FRH and Andrea have worked their way up from build-up competitions to the master class of dressage. In 2019, they qualified for the Nuremberg Burg Cup Final in Frankfurt’s Festhalle. Christoph Hess commented on the ride at the time as follows: “A great round, he shines, he springs, he has a great cadence! A wonderful, harmonious backward tack, with that she showed us that he is on the right track training-wise. A great round with highlights in the trot work.”
And because the two are on the right track training-wise, another highlight followed directly: the victory in the Almased 63rd German Dressage Derby. Already in the entry test, Andrea Timpe showed fine riding was awarded the Entitlement Investment Harmony & Fairness Prize. With a total of 209.234 percentage points, Andrea Timpe took home the victory and the coveted Blue Ribbon.
