In August, they will return to their ”birthplace” in Verden: the FEI WBFSH Dressage World Breeding Championship for Young Horses. The pilot project took place in Verden in 1997, and the city has since hosted the world’s best young dressage horses 17 times. From 4 to 10 August, the title fights of the five- to seven-year-olds will celebrate their 18th Verden birthday and will also crown their world champions in Verden in the following two years, 2026 and 2027.
”For the city, but also for the horse region of Northern Germany, it is a wonderful opportunity to present itself as the host of this important international championship,” emphasises Show Director Ulrike Kubelke. ”And of course for the Hannoveraner Verband as well. So many international horse owners, breeders and riders never come together in one place otherwise. It’s a highlight for everyone! ”
”In 2021, we held the World Championships for the last time – back then for the first time in our new stadium, ” remembers Show Director Ulrike Kubelke, ”and still under Corona conditions. We are now looking forward all the more to the 18th World Championships, which we hope to make a wonderful celebration for young dressage horses with a packed stadium and no restrictions.”
The programme has a very clear focus: the World Championships. „We want to concentrate 100 per cent on the WC,’ explains Kubelke. ”We don’t have a Grand Prix tour in the programme, as we used to, and we haven’t applied for any dressage series either. We want to focus fully on the WC.” All WC competitions can be held in the main stadium, the qualifications as well as the small and of course the big finals. ”On Monday we will open the WC week with the Herwart von der Decken-Show, from Wednesday to Sunday the stadium will belong to the WC participants.”
The only additions to the programme are the qualifications for the Bundeschampionat for three- and four-year-old riding horses, as well as the competition to determine the Hannoveraner champions among three- and four-year-old mares, geldings and stallions. The qualifications will take place on the second dressage arena, the final to determine the champions will take place on Sunday in the main stadium, preceding the FEI World Cup™ Dressage Finals. ”This is also a great stage for our Hannoveraner breeders and of course we hope that, just like last year, we will have a few World Championship medalists among the Hannoveraner horses.”
All World Championship candidates will be accommodated in fixed boxes directly on the park-like World Championship grounds, and Verden is expecting around 150 exceptional dressage talents from almost all parts of the world. VOf course, we have ordered the best weather,” smiles Kubelke, ”but if, contrary to expectations, it should rain, the horses will be dry and comfortably stabled in any case.”
Almost 2,000 seats are available at the main stadium, and additional standing room can be used if necessary. Between competitions, visitors can stroll around the exhibition in the park area and enjoy the food area.
