Paris 2024 – fischerChipmunk FRH: a dream partner

The Olympic Games begin in Paris on Friday 26 July. The eventing riders will begin in the Palace Park of Versailles. Every day we will be presenting a Hannoveraner who will be competing in the French capital in the Hannoveraner news blog. We start with fischerChipmunk FRH, who is one of the hot medal contenders.

This will be fischerChipmunk FRH’s second Olympic Games after Tokyo/JPN 2021 and his rider Michael Jung’s fourth. The German returned twice with the gold medal with his legendary mount Sam. Michael Jung and fischerChipmunk FRH missed out on the sensational title defence in Tokyo/JPN by one “mim”. After a record-breaking dressage test, a mim system was triggered in the cross-country and the gold dreams were gone. fischerChipmunk FRH is hard to beat in the dressage arena and cross-country. In 2022, the bay, born in 2008, won the prestigious five-star event in Lexington/USA. Last year, he was also heading for the title at the European Championships in Le Pin au Haras/FRA until a rumble at the water complex literally dashed all his dreams. fischerChipmunk FRH and Michael Jung will compete as newly crowned German champions in the Palace Park of Versailles – just like three years ago in Tokyo. “fischerChipmunk FRH is a fantastic horse! He has a lot of possibilities and a lot of potential. We have grown together really well! He is a horse with a lot of energy and always wants to push himself and canter forwards – whether on the show jumping arena or in the cross-country. He is always highly motivated. Sometimes a little over-motivated. He’s always in a good mood, really a dream partner,” says Michael Jung about his “Chip”.

The career of fischerChipmunk FRH has been almost classic. On April 5, 2008 – it was a Saturday – he was born at his breeder Dr Hilmer Meyer-Kulenkampff in Behlmer, not far from Bruchhausen-Vilsen. “He was very smart and well presented. Later, he was characterised by his very even temperament and good trotting mechanics,” he recalls. The physician with a penchant for eventing and thoroughbreds placed the cheeky bay in the trusted hands of Julia Krajewski, who was only at the start of her great career at the time. She moulded fischerChipmunk FRH into the Bundeschampion of five-year-old eventing horses and, after taking part in the World Championships for Young Eventing Horses, seamlessly made the leap into the big sport. In 2018, she won in Aachen/GER and travelled with him to the World Equestrian Games in Caen/FRA. She then had to hand him over with a heavy heart and fischerChipmunk FRH came to Michael Jung. Over the past five years, the pair have collected no fewer than 13 victories at the very highest level.

fischerChipmunk FRH’s breeder has also received special honours: in 2019, dam Havanna, who is now owned by Wolfgang Lutz, Völkersen, was named Hannoveraner Mare of the Year, and in 2022, the WBFSH named Dr Hilmer Meyer-Kulenkampff “Breeder of the Year”. fischerChipmunk FRH’s full sister Chica is still in the breeder’s stable today and has already caused a stir with her son Chipmunk’s Erbe by Conthargos. Born in 2020, the dark bay was awarded premium stallion at the licensing in Verden and is available to breeders at Jens Hoffrogge’s station. Julia Krajewski secured fischerChipmunk FRH’s full brother ChinTonic at the Verden foal auction in 2015, raised him and placed with him twice at the Bundeschampionat. After placing sixth at the World Championships for seven-year-old eventing horses, she sold ChinTonic to the USA, where he recently came second with Sydney Elliot in Bromont/CAN in his first start in a three-star long test.
